Mr Wow’s Emporium is best summarised by its catchphrase: purveyors of fine drinks, good times and bocce.

The ideal spot for a drink any night of the week, the upstairs bar – affectionately named the Wowhouse – boasts an impressive list of cocktails, both classic and custom, as well as a large range of premium spirits, liqueurs, single malts, fine-aged rum and wines to match every taste.

It’s owned and operated by the Thank You Come Again group, who also have Double Happiness, Lily Blacks and New Gold Mountain under their belt. The team have repeatedly hit the nail on the head and it’s no different with the Smith St mainstay, creating a relaxed environment where downing a drink while playing pingpong and eating free popcorn is not only acceptable, but encouraged.

The beverage list is where drinking dreams are achieved. Start with a classic cocktail, like the White Lady – gin, Cointreau, lemon, sugar and orange bitters – before asking the bartender to whip something up – as long as they’ve got the ingredients, it’s on the cards. If wine is more to your liking order something from the mostly Australian list, including the Tatachilla Pinot Gris from McLaren Vale and Oak Ridge Pinot Noir. There’s also a concise selection of brews on offer, including Brooklyn lager, Coopers pale and Pikes Oakbank pilsner.

If you’re after more than just a sip and sit situation, Mr Wow’s also boasts an indoor bocce pitch, pool table and pingpong table, ready and waiting to entertain you for hours. With free popcorn on hand, you won’t be going hungry either.

That said, if the free-flowing snack just isn’t cutting the mustard, turn to the Voodoo Jerk truck, which sets up shop in the warehouse behind the bar. Boasting some of Melbourne’s best fried chicken, as well as hunger-inducing burgers and jerk-spiced pork ribs, it’s the ideal accompaniment to a night of delicious drinking.
