While Glenferrie Road has no shortage of cafes, there is something very special about Crabapple Kitchen. Peeking out from behind a white picket fence, the cheery all-day eatery serves Mediterranean inspired fare and specialty coffee seven days a week.

Opened in 2012, Crabapple Kitchen is the brainchild of talented duo Greg Feck and Kim Coronica. Greg has more than 20 years professional experience in kitchens around the world. While originally hailing from New Zealand, he went on to work in London under the likes of Jamie Oliver before moving to Melbourne.

Kim has also been in the industry for more than two decades, starting as a kitchen hand and progressing into consultancy positions. Crabapple Kitchen is Kim’s sixth successful venture – her repertoire includes Richmond Hill Cafe & Larder, Sapore and Hawthorn’s Vaporetto Bar and Eatery, among others, all of which combining her love of food and coffee with her love for travel.

In opening Crabapple Kitchen, Greg and Kim wanted to create a space that felt like home, welcoming discerning coffee drinkers out from the stinking summer days and cold winter mornings for a delicious brew.

When it came to selecting a coffee supplier, Greg and Kim turned to the team at Campos, as they were eager to work with like-minded individuals who were passionate about their product and equally committed to the training and development of young baristas. Crabapple Kitchen’s Head Barista is Sam Baldwin, who moved to Melbourne from New South Wales to pursue his music career and found another passion: coffee. The team chose Campos’ Superior Blend as the house blend, as it offers a delightful fusion of sweet red fruit, toffee and chocolate flavours. Equally as comfortable on its own, the Superior Blend is also perfect for anchoring a full selection of milk-based coffees.

As Head Chef at Crabapple Kitchen, Greg has created a menu of travel-inspired dishes. Inspired heavily by Italian, French and Spanish flavours, he makes use of the finest Victorian produce to execute a seasonal menu. In addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner fare, each menu also features a rotating travel section, which highlights Greg’s travels to a particular part of the world. Sample a Greek-inspired breakfast dish, or a Nepalese curry on your next visit.

If you have time, grab a seat inside and enjoy the cosy and homely surroundings. Furnished with comfy banquettes and beautiful fabrics, Crabapple Kitchen features exposed brick walls, an open fireplace and hanging pendant lights. It’s the kind of space you would expect to find old-school hospitality – that’s exactly what you will discover here.

Crabapple Kitchen is a warm and welcoming space that is at home on Hawthorn’s bustling Glenferrie Road. With a focus on travel, the all-day cafe is thinking outside of the box, serving delicious food and drink inspired by the world.
