Fourth Chapter is the newest page in Sarah Whitfield’s cafe-culture story, and what a lovely addition it is.
Beautiful and healthy breakfasts have become a signature for Sarah. While her first ventures, Sardi and Muharam, both focused on gorgeous creations, Sarah took this one step further; creating dishes that look great and are great for you. She headed for the ’burbs where TREI quickly become a favourite amongst health-conscious locals.
Just Sarah and her sister, Jessica, were keen to replicate TREI’s success they stumbled upon a gorgeous wooden door next to Prahran’s Victoria Gardens. Over the next several months they transformed the venue with help of their business partner and carpenter, Christian ‘Kik’ Rocchi.
Like TREI, the menu is filled with plenty of guilt-free treats. Even some of the most decadent of dishes are refined sugar-free, gluten and dairy free – this includes the hotcakes that are stacked high and smothered in passionfruit crème, topped with mango and lime coyo ice cream and a sprinkle of salted macadamias. Cacao pops are another popular guilt-free choice with cacao avocado mousse, coyo caramelised bananas and pear dust.
While granola doesn’t sound exciting, this dish is more than worthy of an Instagram post. Oats, buckinis, hazelnuts, almonds and berries are scattered around a silky coconut pannacotta.
If you prefer lunch to brunch then you’ll love the pulled beef brisket burger with smoked black brioche and chilli mayo. Bao’s filled with southern style fried chicken are also a tasty and popular choice.
Equally as tempting is the range of drinks on offer. The Strawberry Shortcake smoothie is as beautiful as it is delicious with coconut mylk, almond crumble, strawberries, maca, chia and maple syrup, topped with whipped coconut cream. Sisko’s famous hot chocolate spheres also make an appearance while Niccolo coffee is on offer with three non-dairy milk alternatives.
Some of the best spots to enjoy your decadent feasts are outback in the bright, lush courtyard. There are heaters for winter, umbrellas for shade in summer and a fantastic view out onto the stunning Victoria Gardens all year round. During summer you can pick up a basket and rug and head over to the park for a picnic.
Inside, the cafe is equally bright. Ivy hangs in baskets from the ceiling bringing the outdoors in. Be careful where you sit though – a view of the cake cabinet is often a little too tempting.
This little stretch of Prahran is a little quieter than others but it’s the perfect spot to sit back, relax and enjoy the sunshine with some of the healthiest treats around.
