While it seems Melburnians will line up around the corner for each foodie trend that arrives in the city, it’s a different story in Paris. The city is filled with an abundance of patisseries, each as good as the next, so for Parisians to line up along the Champs-Élysées for Ladurée’s macarons, you know they are going to be incredible.
Ladurée’s first Melbourne store opened its doors to a line of patient patrons on 7 November.
Although it has been in business since 1862, the famous teahouse finds itself in more modern surrounds within Chadstone’s new $600 million upgrade. Ladurée’s new ‘pod’ sits at 12-metres high, boasting the best vantage point of Chadstone’s new grid-shell roof. Inside a stunning nine-seater marble bar takes center stage with delicate mosaic artwork completing the opulent Parisian-inspired tearoom.
Inside, you’ll find plenty of delicious macarons to try; salted caramel, lemon, chocolate, raspberry, pistachio, rose petal, liquorice or coffee – all available to eat in or popped inside Ladurée’s signature gift boxes. If macarons aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other fancy French treats including financiers, Madeleines or lemon cakes.
While Ladurée is known for being a sweet tooth’s paradise there are plenty of savoury options as well. You’ll find a selection of finger sandwiches, and for something more substantial there is a tight brunch menu.
As a French inspired teahouse there’s really only one option to quench your thirst. There are classic options including earl grey as well as a variety of herbal options. If you’re indulging in a salted caramel macaron you can pair your delicious morsel with a cup of caramel au lait – a Ceylon based tea with caramel notes and marigold petals, which is designed to be served with milk.
Ladurée also has a range of sorbets and ice creams with flavours designed to complement the macarons on offer. On a warm day, cool down with a milkshake, made from the same gourmet gelato.
Ladurée’s offerings don’t just stop at edible treats – there are plenty of French fancies to be found. From chocolates to candles and perfumes, you’ll always be able to find a Parisian inspired gift for the Francophile in your life.
