Nestled on the corner of Tooronga and Anderson Roads, Mr & Mrs Anderson is the newest resident to join the Hawthorn East hood. No it’s not a little old couple that has settled down over the road from Auburn High School. On the contrary, it is a trendy, health-focused cafe, pumping out green juices and chia puddings like they’re going out of fashion.
Owners, James Limneos (Black Squirrel Cafe) and Roulla Saisanas (Lalage) have joined forces with chef, Lasse Povlsen, ex- Andrew McConnell Group, Circa the Prince, Attica and Three Bags Full, to provide, delicious, health-conscious food to nearby residents.
Looking to appeal to the local Hawthorn East community, Mr & Mrs Anderson sources as much of its products locally as possible. Breakfast typically begins with a slice of Woodfrog toast topped with Lasse’s chilli scrambled eggs or the famous caramelised white chocolate brioche with crystalised white chocolate, white chocolate matcha truffles, raspberry coulis and sorbet, fresh berries and candied walnuts.
The lunch menu, like the breakfast offering has a number of fresh, healthy options including the organic soba noodle salad, kale, broad beans, herbs from the farm, marinated tofu, baked pumpkin and beetroot with ponzu dressing and fresh apple. But, if you’re feeling downright decadent head straight for the soft shell crab brioche burger.
If you’re after a special treat to keep you going through the afternoon, Mr & Mrs Anderson also stocks delicious pastries from Penny for Pound patisserie. All food is easily washed down with one of their snazzy shakes, freshly squeezed juices or a carefully brewed coffee, beans courtesy of local roaster, Axil Coffee.
