Two Bros on Blyth is transforming Altona’s food scene, one cutting edge brunch at a time.
The newly opened all-day eatery and bar was created by brothers, Michael and Ehab Botros, following the success of their Two Bros on Blyth pop up cafe last year. While the space is their first permanent venture, the boys bring a combined 20 years of experience in both hospitality and design to the two-storey space, located just off bustling Pier Street.
The mission for Michael and Ehab was to bring Melbourne’s vibrant cafe culture and nightlife to the diverse and growing suburb of Altona. “We wanted to open a space where people could have a good time without having to go into the city,” said Michael.
The all-day concept means opening at 6.30am every morning to provide locals and the like with brekky, brunch, lunch and coffee. With a seating capacity of 90, customers are encouraged to eat in and enjoy the atmosphere, while takeaway is available for those on the run.
Head Chef, Dougie Thompson, oversees a carefully selected kitchen team, who create a daytime menu of on trend brunches and healthy lunches. These options, , follow Melbourne’s inner-city brunch scene closely, including ricotta hot cakes; crumpets with Dougie’s delicious vanilla, rhubarb and raspberry jam; and chia coconut pudding.
Lunch options include toasted melts and house sandwiches as well as more substantial fare like a saucy Korean barbecue Wagyu burger, buttermilk chicken bacon cheeseburger, and roasted cauliflower with berbere, fried chickpeas and pomegranate.
As the sun goes down, Two Bros on Blyth transforms seamlessly into a classy space for dinner and drinks. Dinner is offered from Wednesday through Sunday and features a share-plate menu infused with American barbecue, pan-Asian and modern Australian flavours. Individual dishes are also available for those who don’t feel like sharing.
The exciting dinner menu is complemented perfectly by a drinks list put together by Pete Giannaris (The Press Club, Gazi and Blue Diamond). Pete cleverly combines a select range of craft beer with an impressive range of cocktails. Try The Nutty Professor – a concoction of amaretto, bourbon, Averna, Angostura bitters, citrus and cloudy apple, it will keep you coming back for more.
The cocktails and on-trend fare is served in a lofty, light-filled space. Using their design expertise, Michael and Ehab have taken inspiration from Altona’s contrast of seaside and industrial landscapes to create a contemporary, industrial space complete with custom pendant lights and hanging greenery. The upper level of the space also features a dining room and bar that will host music events throughout the year.
Two Bros on Blyth has successfully brought innovative fare, based on current Melbourne trends, to Altona. As you settle into the industrial style space, you may forget you are so far from the centre of Melbourne and react with surprise as you leave, realising you weren’t in Brunswick after all.
