For north-siders, sometimes Richmond, Windsor and the city feel just a little too far. But now your Fonda cravings can be satisfied closer to home – the casual Mexican eatery has brought its fresh fare to Collingwood.
The team took over the dilapidated Mr Cheesecake store in early 2016, bringing in ST Style to remodel both levels of the space. Retaining the structure of the building uncovered some design surprises: light pink walls, heritage archways and a concrete staircase, all of which became features of the final space.
There are some fun new design elements too – natural timbers make the pastel colour-scheme pop. The result is a reinterpretation of Fonda’s characteristically colourful graphic design by studio, Wildhen Design.
Neon signage and a huge geometric wall mural by street artist, Deams, are highlights of the venue, injecting the space with the laid-back tropical vibe that has made Fonda a fixture for group catch ups and chilled-out drinks.
A brand-new upper level boasts alfresco, a sundeck and a separate bar, so you won’t have to go far for that second watermelon margarita.
You’ll also be able to try some fresh new menu additions such as the Summer Avo Burrito, perfect for beating the heat on balmy evenings. The old favourites are also on offer, so you can munch on burritos, tacos and ensaladas to your heart’s content, without having to leave the north.
