What do you get when you combine high quality Vietnamese food, some of Victoria’s best produce and a killer brother-sister team in the kitchen? Something pretty Pho-Nom!
With two CBD locations, Pho-Nom is one of Melbourne’s premier locations for fast, healthy and delicious Vietnamese food. The superstar sibling team behind these two much-loved venues is chef Jerry Mai (Dandelion and London’s Namh) and her brother David. Born from a strong desire to recreate the flavours and experience of Ho Chi Minh City’s hawker-style dining but an equal desire to showcase some of the best local produce available, Pho-Nom puts a truly Melbourne twist on inherently traditional Vietnamese flavours.
What sets Pho-Nom apart from the Victoria Street classics is this dedication to well-sourced produce. Jerry and David are extremely proud of their strong relationships with suppliers such as Warialda Beef, Little Creek Cattle, Milawa Free Range Poultry and Sher Wagyu. Through this conscious decision to take classic Vietnamese food to the next level, they have begun to produce some of the city’s most popular and well-loved street food.
The menu is quite simply a celebration of traditional classics. Famous for its pho, made using Jerry and David’s mother’s recipe, Pho-Nom offers many different variations on the traditional noodle soup, including thinly sliced rare beef, brisket, Wagyu sirloin, meatballs, chicken, or mushrooms and tofu.
However, if you are looking for something that won’t end in a waterfall of soup cascading down your chin and all over your clothes, Pho-Nom also offers delicious rice paper rolls filled with citrus-cured rare salmon or crispy green rice prawns; a hearty selection of banh mis filled with fried chicken, pork and pâté or tofu, as well as some scrumptious Vietnamese salads and snack-sized treats. All of this is topped of with an abundance of delicious specials. Washed down with a fresh young coconut, sugar cane juice, Vietnamese coffee or your choice of one of their Vietnamese beers, every meal is a trip to the busy streets of Hanoi without the jetlag or 100% humidity.
With two well-polished, consistently bustling locations, Pho-Nom is not only a destination for a cheap and fast feed but a hotpot of punchy Vietnamese flavours combined with quality Victorian produce. A great destination for dining traditionalists and experimenters, a quick trip to Pho-Nom never seems to disappoint.
