For a new take on dinner and a show, enjoy a meal at Riverside Teppanyaki, where a side of theatre comes with every dish. The contemporary restaurant specialises in Japanese teppanyaki and with 19 cooking stations, it gives every visitor a front-row seat to all the action.

Riverside Teppanyaki was created by the talented Australian Restaurant Group and, like their other venues, had its beginnings at the Rocks in Sydney. Success at the Rocks saw the team expand to Melbourne with the establishment of Riverside Teppanyaki in 2011.

The upbeat restaurant aims to showcase each chef’s knife and cooking skills, as well as their ability to create excellent cuisine using only the finest produce.

Seating for 50 people at the marble bench allows guests to fully engage with the chefs, watching with awe as meals are prepared and cooked over the flames just metres away.

What’s more, the teppan (iron plates) at Riverside Teppanyaki, on which the food is cooked before your eyes, are some of the largest in the world, meaning no matter where you sit, you have a close look at what you’re about to eat.

Among the friendly chefs demonstrating their expert knife skills is likely to be Head Chef, Ben Rotella. Ben comes from an Italian, Japanese background and has a true passion for discovering and combining various flavours. He has overseen the creation of an inspiring menu that is designed to surprise your palate while demonstrating the very best of teppanyaki-style dining.

All the seafood is fresh from sustainable fisheries or farmed locally, while all meat is halal and export grade. The vegetables arrive each morning from local suppliers or markets, so you know whatever you choose it is going to be fresh.

Riverside Teppanyaki offers a selection of set menus, allowing customers to work within a budget while still experiencing all of the beautiful flavours. Alternatively, an a la carte menu is available for the more experienced teppanyaki goers, allowing you to order additional dishes alongside the set menu. Start your culinary experience by sharing a bowl of edamame, along with vegetable tempura, tuna sashimi or wafu oysters – freshly shucked and served with a ponzu dressing.

For something more filling, guests are offered a choice of fish or meat cooked on the teppan – think Hokkaido scallops, Atlantic salmon, chicken or a variation of Wagyu beef cuts.

If the punchy spirit is not for you, there is also an extensive range of spirits, beer, wine, cider and Japanese-infused cocktails available. For a twist on the old favourite, try the Japanese Mojito; or the Tokyo Sour Plum – a sweet and sour concoction of Cointreau, umeshu plum wine and citrus syrup.
