Steven and Francine Hackett opened their first cafe in 1998, while also juggling two children and study. Their passion for coffee has only grown since then. They see brews as a lifestyle and a love letter to clients and friends. Two years ago, Veneziano coffee started being distributed in New South Wales, opening a whole new world of coffee to Steven and Francine. They were able to meet other baristas and Latte Art champions and learn from the best, and from this they began their never-ending pursuit for the perfect cup of coffee. Bread & Stone is where the couple can experiment and play with everything they have learnt.
It only makes sense then that Steven and Francine should feature Veneziano coffee in their cafe – they’ve been hooked on it since they first tasted it in Melbourne. They were blown away by the passion, skill and quality in every seasonal roast. Their house blend, the Bond Street Seasonal Blend, has a syrupy body with berry notes with a brown sugar finish. The decision to use a seasonal blend was important to Bread & Stone because the subtle changes keep the year interesting and matches the seasonality they prize in their food.
With 40% from Brazil and two Ethiopian beans, Bond Street was the perfect choice for Steven and Francine because it works well with both black and milk drinkers.
While the couple may be lovers of coffee, they understand that some people just need it to make it through their day. Bread & Stone is filled with everyone from those who enjoy AeroPress and cold drip coffee, to workers who would rather a quick cappuccino with too many sugars. Tea lovers aren’t forgotten here either, with a selection of Ovvio organic teas available.
Bread & Stone also caters to the foodies in the area. Produce for breakfast and lunch is locally sourced and made in-house where ever possible. Expect seasonal, healthy fare like quinoa and roast veggie frittatas or paleo brownies and muffins. There are even decadent pastries and donuts loaded with toppings for those looking to treat themselves.
The modern wooden interior of Bread & Stone is filled with hanging plants and bright blue hues, feeling as fresh and clean as their food. It’s the perfect place for a quality coffee date and some feel-good food.
