Unconventional and subcontinental, Brick Lane is bringing the flavours of India to the heart of Darlinghurst. Taking its inspiration from London’s Brick Lane – known for its world-class curries, provocative street art and impelling fashion – Brick Lane is a place for foodies to experience something new.  

Kiran Bains and Alistair French’s vision came from years of experience and knowledge, having worked for more than 20 years with the best in the business, including teams at est., Papi Chulo and Guillame at Bennelong. Kiran identified a gap in the market for a place to indulge in Indian flavours without having to experience the spicy ‘food coma’ that follows a heavy Indian meal. With this in mind the team at Brick Lane have developed a menu that combines fresh Australian produce with the techniques and flavours of Indian cuisine.

After enlisting Joey Ingram as Head Chef – whose portfolio boasts an impressive array of experience across many different cuisines – the team set their focus on curating an eclectic menu that infuses modern Australian dishes with the flavours of India.

From top to bottom, the menu will never cease to amaze. To start, snack on some naan-mi with roti bread, spiced pate or roasted pork belly. Mains consist of everything form slow-cooked lamb shoulder served with curried chickpeas, spinach and mint yoghurt, to Papa G’s crispy fried fillets with spiced tomato ragu, coconut smash and crunchy squid crumble.

Make sure you leave room for dessert; the banana tapioca with coconut, lime and macadamia ice cream is not to be missed. The menu is complemented by a fully stocked bar, extensive wine list and an array of contemporary cocktails, showcasing citrusy flavours that go hand in hand with the vibrant tones of the Indian-inspired food.

With the edgy space courtesy of interior designer, Matt Angilcas of kisshugkiss, Brick Lane takes inspiration from the street-art vibes of its namesake in London. With floor-to-ceiling murals of Sadhus by Shannon Crees, whose art was discovered on London’s Brick Lane, the sight alone will amaze you.

With a menu full of dishes perfect for sharing, an exciting range of cocktails ready for the taking and a funky atmosphere to be enjoyed, Brick Lane is putting its best foot forward as it makes its debut on Sydney’s culinary radar.
