In the middle of one of Sydney’s best-known parklands sits Centennial Homestead, an inimitable dining precinct that unites a love of the outdoors with delicious dining experiences.

Centennial Homestead has numerous offerings that come together to create a homely retreat within the expansive gardens. The precinct, previously known as Centennial Parklands Dining, is comprised of three distinct, yet related dining venues: the Kitchen, Pantry and Wisteria Room.

Executive Chef, Rodrigo Do Vale, is tasked with the challenge of creating three intertwining yet distinct dining experiences. While some would find this difficult, for Rod it’s just one more culinary challenge to conquer. He previously worked in the kitchen of The Grounds of Alexandria and for hospitality group Nick’s.

Throughout his career Rod has built a strong reputation for identifying culinary trends and has developed an instinctive knowledge of what diners are looking for. At Centennial Homestead this is reflected in a menu influenced by Sydney’s dining diversity. Rod is also passionate about local ingredients and utilises produce grown within the park across all three menus.

The Kitchen specialises in contemporary cafe fare. Early birds will love the breakfast offerings – start your day with the salmon omelette with avocado, harissa, labne and dried olives. If you have a hankering for something sweeter, try the coconut hotcakes with fresh berries, vanilla crème fraiche, mixed seeds, maple syrup and almonds. Wash it down with a cold-pressed juice or enjoy a caffeine kick from inner-west coffee gurus Double Roasters.

At midday, the Kitchen’s menu features fresh salads and hearty mains. Rod takes a simple green salad up several notches with palm hearts, lentils, baby cos lettuce and greens, topped with fresh seeds. If you prefer your salads with extra protein, try the mixed grain chicken salad with roast baby beets, corn and harissa labne.

The marinated pork loin is a popular choice, accompanied with zucchini flowers stuffed with goat’s curd, black barley, honey-roasted apple and quince aioli. For a lighter option the roasted pumpkin feta is sure to hit the spot, with a warm mix of pumpkin, za’atar, goat’s cheese and honey, served with chargrilled pita bread and minted yoghurt.

If you’re on the move, the Pantry offers the perfect spot to grab a quick bite to eat. There are plenty of options to take away or to enjoy on the deck. Among the breakfast offerings, you’ll find acai bowls topped with fresh fruit, breakfast burgers and a rotating selection of house made pastries. For lunch, there is a range of savoury dishes, including a super green salad, or mouth watering slow-cooked lamb with couscous beetroot and harissa labne. If you’re setting off to explore the gardens, the Pantry provides picnic baskets filled with an array of antipasti.

Both spaces can be booked for events, as well as the adjoining Wisteria Room – an elegant and understated event space that brings the heritage and history of the park inside. With seating for up to 300 and space for 500 guests cocktail- style, Centennial Homestead is fast becoming one of Sydney’s most sought after wedding locations.

If you’re craving the opportunity to dine among nature or simply feel peckish while exploring the park, Centennial Homestead will provide you with mouth- watering offerings in one of Sydney’s most unique locations.
