Sometimes grabbing quality takeaway and heading home for an early night is all you need. Merivale has enlisted culinary heavyweight, Ben Greeno, to serve up a solution for foodies in a hurry with its latest venture, The Chicken Shop
The Chicken Shop is the takeaway arm of next-door restaurant, The Paddington, and aims to make life easy with its short and snappy menu.
The rotisserie is the latest addition to Merivale’s Paddington precinct. November 2015 saw the opening of The Paddington and late 2016 saw the highly anticipated opening of Fred’s, while the basement is home to Charlie Parker’s – a bar with produce-driven cocktails and stunning interiors.
Ben’s previous experience is not to be overlooked. Momofuku Seiobo, Michelin-starred Sat Bains and the world’s best restaurant, Noma, top his CV. Switching from high-end dining to a more casual approach, Ben’s young family has influenced his change of pace.
Ben has designed The Chicken Shop’s menu around the specially-imported, custom-made French rotisseries that typifies the pub next door. The highlight of the menu is, of course, the succulent poultry, however, a selection of meats and seafood will also be on rotation throughout the week. Think ocean trout, pork belly, lamb rump and glazed ham, served alongside a variety of sides. Fresh salads will include cos lettuce with avocado, radish and pumpkin seeds, or a green bean, hazelnut and shallot creation.
The lunchtime sandwich offering is what Ben is most excited for. The Chicken Shop uses fresh bread courtesy of Brickfields, which holds the filling and doesn’t fall apart in your hands – a practical lunch option for anyone wanting to return to the office neat and tidy. Sandwiches include glazed leg ham with comte, Dijon mustard and pickle, or Asian-inspired fish fingers with crushed edamame, yuzu and togarashi, just to name a few.
