Cheese and bacon cob loaf

The bacon! The bacon! This cob loaf is creamy and cheesy perfection at its best. This cob loaf is reminiscent of pizza and cheese fondue, which makes it very popular.

The cob loaf recipe is simple and adaptable. You can follow the original or make any changes that you like. Double the recipe if necessary because there will be no leftovers.

What is a Cheese and Bacon Cob Loaf?

The popular Creamy Dip Cheese and Bacon Cob Loaf comes in a round loaf of bread. The cheese and bacon mixture is usually served warm, and the inside of the round bread loaf is used to dip in.

A cob loaf is often on the table at Australian events such as potlucks, parties, or Christmas. They’re always popular, no matter what the occasion! There are many flavors to choose from, but Spinach Cob Loaf is a popular option.

How to make a cheese and bacon cob:

  1. Heat the oven to 110degC/230degF.
  2. Remove the soft bread from the inside of the loaf by cutting around 2 cm/ 1 inch away from the top. It can be broken into small pieces and placed on a baking tray covered with baking paper. Add the lid to the empty cob loaf and place the tray in the oven for 5-10 mins.
  3. Place the bacon and onions in a medium pan over medium heat. Cook for 3-5 minutes.
  4. Add the cream cheese and sour cream and reduce the heat. Mix until well combined.
  5. Pour in the French Onion Soup Mix, optional Brie Cheese, and the Pizza Cheese (reserving some for the top). Mix until all the ingredients are heated and the cheese has melted (around 2 minutes).
  6. Remove the cob loaf and bread pieces and increase the temperature of the oven to 200degC/400degF. Transfer the bread and lid to a serving bowl. Optional: Cut the top into small pieces to dip in.
  7. Top the cob with the rest of the pizza cheese. Put the cob loaf back in the oven for 10 minutes to melt and warm the cheese.
  8. Enjoy!

Cob Loaf Flavour Variations:

    • Add roto chicken, corn, and a teaspoon of curry powder.
    • Crab meat makes a wonderful addition to any dish, especially when you have leftovers from Christmas.
    • Spice up your dish with cayenne, chili flakes, and smoked paprika.
    • This cob bread can be made with spinach or our creamy cob loaf with spinach.
    • Serve the dip as bacon and cheese in a ramekin or other heat-resistant dish. This way, you can melt the cheese while it is still in the oven.

      • No Oven? No oven?
      • Are you out of bread to dip? If you are out of bread, use other items to drop. These include corn chips or vegetable sticks.
      • Warm your dip in the pan slowly. The heat can cause the cream and cheese to boil if you use too much.

        • ▢ 250 g cream cheese 8.8oz
        • ▢ 250 g sour cream 8.8oz
        • ▢ Bacon 7 oz 200 g
        • ▢ 1 1/2 cups pizza cheese grated 150g / 5.3oz (mozzarella, cheddar & parmesan), sub tasty cheese, reserve one handful
        • ▢ 1 The following are some examples of the use of onion
        • ▢ Substitute 1 tbsp French onion soup mix for spring vegetable soup mix.

Optional

        • ▢ 100g brie half a wheel (3.5oz) / sub camembert

Instructions

  • Pour in the French Onion Soup Mix, optional Brie Cheese, and the Pizza Cheese (reserving some for the top). Mix until all the ingredients are heated and the cheese has melted (around 2 minutes).
        • 1 tbsp French onion soup mix,100 g brie cheese,1 1/2 cups pizza cheese
        • Remove the cob loaf and bread pieces and increase the temperature of the oven to 200degC/400degF. Transfer the bread and lid to a serving bowl. Optional: Cut the top into small pieces to dip in.
        • Top the cob bread with the rest of the pizza cheese. Put the cob loaf back in the oven for 10 minutes to melt and warm the cheese.
        • Enjoy!
